Quark 4.04 printing problem with MacOS 9.2 HELP!

Post by hudgevudg » Sun, 19 Nov 2006 03:50:50

I am running quark 4.04 on a Mac G4 OS 9.2 and a Brother laser printer.
I am experiencing printing problems when printing Quark documents
made with an older version of Quark. I've been able to print these out
fine, except for recently after a power outage.

Now when I print the existing Quark files, the printed page has random
irregular spacing, overlapping text with white breaks through it. I'm
stumped. Before the outage, I was able to print fine.

What can I do? Help Help Help!

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

First, try moving the Xpress Preferences file out of your QuarkXpress
folder, then relaunch Xpress. If the problem goes away, You're done.

As an aside, is there a reason you're still at 4.04? You should apply
the 4.1 and 4.11 updaters, available here:
Language=0&pageCount=0&ProductTypeIdx=1&OSFamilyIdx=2&FileTypeIdx=3&Lang
uageIdx=9999&keywords=&search=condensed&Search=Search>

4.0x is a buggy piece of crap. 4.11 is MUCH more stable.

Agreed 200%!

I think 4.11 is the most stable Quark has ever been. I'll upgrade to 7 when
they get anywhere close to 4.11.

I couldn't agree MORE! Xpress 4.11 was the best Quark ever had to offer. As
far as I'm concerned that was the last version. Of course, as a prepress
operator, I'll be using the newer versions for the foreseeable future.

Still using Pagemaker, too....

Happy weekend!

If you have the choice, why bother upgrading to 7...ever? InDesign is much
more cost effective, and generally better anyway. If I had the choice I'd
never use Pagemaker, QuarkXpress, Corel, Publisher, Word, Powerpoint or any
of the other *** I have to deal with on a daily basis. Try adding the buggy
software on the prepress end of things that happen after a design is
complete in the layout app. All this software equals a lot of issues! :(

I had a rough day today, so I'm feeling somewhat cynical. Forgive me. Have a
great weekend!!

Agreed. There have been no signs -- none, zip, zilch -- of
improvements in QuarkXPress for a LONG time and no apparent reason to
expect that to change.

Even QXP4 was barely an improvement over 3.3, and that was released in
what? 1996?

Hey,

Thanx! I hope you have a great turkey day, too. I'll be driving to Lousyanna
for Thanksgiving...fun fun. I'll have Prinergy bugs on my mind the whole
way. :(

Earlier than that, I think. I moved from Edmonton to Saskatoon in 1994,
and I think we were at 3.32 then.

There's no sign of anything earlier than 4.1 on Quark's site. I'd have
to check the disks at work, which will be Monday and I'll likely have
lost all interest in doing so by then.

;-)
