Hi,

Does someone know or can point me to a document which gives mit information
about the memory handling of fifos and sharedmemory? I am interessted in the
fact if the used memory is permanently located in RAM or if it is possible that
it will be swapped to the harddisk.

thanks for help.

regards

Wilfried

According to the README file of RTLinux driver mbuff (a shared memory
driver, part of RTLinux), the memory can't be swapped out.
I think RTLinux FiFos are also required to not be swapped to harddisk, but I
have no documentation at hand.

We use both methods, and haven't seen any problems there (but look out for
the acquired size of FiFo and shared memory).

Regards,
Stefan
