Atheros AR5005G Wireless Card not not detecting wireless network

Post by nimmi_sriv » Thu, 19 Jul 2007 12:38:16

I have a very peculiar situation. The inbuilt Atheros AR5005G
Wireless Card that came with my Toshiba Satellite A105-S2081 laptop is
not detecting my wireless network. However, when I plug in the ZD1201
IEEE 802.11b USB Adapter, that is detecting my wireless network. Does
anyone have any idea why this is happening? How can I get the Atheros
AR5005G Wireless Card to detect this network?

My OS is Microsoft Windows XP, Home edition, Version 2002, Service
Pack 2. I would like to mention that my home wireless network is
unsecured. Also, for the built in wireless network card the icon in
Network Connections shows "Not connected, Firewalled"

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nimmi

Thanks for the excellent reference: http://www.yqcomputer.com/
I am a little embarrassed to admit that my laptop did have a small
wireless antenna on/off switch. I had never noticed that. After I
turned it on, here is the series of steps we went through:

1) Start->Connect To -> Show all connections
2) Highlight the wireless connection and check Properties
3) There should have been 3 tabs (General, Wireless Networks,
Advanced) but there were only 2 (General and Advanced)

Since there were only 2 tabs, we proceeded to do the following:
4) Start->My Computer ->Right Click -> Manage -> Services and
Applications (alternatively just type services.msc on the command
prompt)
5) Highlight Services
6) Highlight Wireless Zero Configuration and select Properties
7) Ensure that Start Type is automatic and Service Status is Started
8) Highlight the wireless network connection icon and select View
Available Wireless Networks
9) Highlight the desired wireless network and press connect

Thanks,
