How satisfactory is it in operation.

I'm not an Autocad user, but am looking for a relatively inexpensive "
command and control" with some minimal dictation [ e.g. jotting notes
into Notepad ].

I would highly recommend this software......... here is why....... it has
the ability to automatically read all of the menu and sub menus from the
standard Windows boxes and then it displays a list of all these commands so
you know that Realize VOice will reconize these commands......... I've also
noticed no training is required for it to reconize commands, however if you
want to be able to dictate into say notepad or MS Word you have to train
your voice by reading passages........ In addition it is very easy to create
your own Voice/ keyboard commands meaning that say you want the F8 key to by
pressed when you say a certain word - you just say the word and then press
the F8 key and save the macro ............. You can download a free trail
version but I found that when you do it makes it hard to load the real
version because you have to go into the WIndows registry and totally erase
all references to Realize Voice............ you need a good mic...... I
would recommend a Platronics SP 500 which is what I use............ it works
great with windows XP but not so good with windows 98.............. probably
because my Win98 proceeser is not fast enough and doesn't have the 512 meg
worth of memory that my WIn XP has...........
I hope this helps............
