I've just been testing an XP system that is quite reasonable.

Totally silent. Lower power consumption than my RPC. Very compact.

Potentially very good to compliment a RISC OS system.

It is a wyse Winterm running XPe.

It's still slow to start (no change there), but doesn't have OE, comes
setup looking more like 2000 and there is no "I sell my computers soul
to Bill" agreement. It has no drives and OS in ROM. (Get virused, power
off and you're clean)

It is quite a nice internet station. (I wouldn't want to use windows
for much else at home), the problem is, I suspect, the cost is greater
than a cheap PC.

I won't be pleased to give it back.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

"Get virused, power off, power back on discover that the server that really
runs the software got stuffed by the virus..."

No good whatsoever having a terminal that comes up clean if the server is
stuffed.

I'm using it at home (behind a router), the only server is a Quantum
Snap.

The idea of using them as a termininal at work has been dropped like a
hot potato. (Boot up time killed that, before the though of blaster
doing the rounds was even raised)

(the wyse blazers - bsd i think - are nice)

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

I seem to recall the Wyse technical guy saying it was a variant.
(He lost interest in the work related stuff when his sales colleague
started talking "windows" again)

Ages back now - the units didn't even have proper production cases.
