This printer only supports SPL (Samsung Printer Language), which
sounds like a proprietory protocol and which would normally mean it is
a so-called "GDI" printer that only works with its proprietory Windows
driver. The printer is supported by Linux and MacOSX though, which
suggests that it might be possible to support it under RISC OS.

I am planning to release RISC OS drivers for some Samsung GDI printers
soon, so this one might just work with them.

If you have been able to connect the printer and you can send data to
it I can send you a test file so you can try out whether it will work
or not.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

I forgot to say that the printer is a USB one, So would this work with
my Simtec USB interface. And would your driver work for it also with
printers.

Only you can tell by trying it. There are two aspects to printing:
First, generating the data stream suitable for your printer and then
sending said data to the printer. The printer-specific driver is only
responsible for the former part, the latter part is done by the OS
plus additional hardware drivers, such as your USB drivers.

Yes.

Martin, this is the same printer which I contacted you about, and we
tested successfully. I'm sure in this instance, that patience is a
virtue.

That's something that I would be interested in. I did buy one a couple
of years ago, but took it back after realising it wouldn't work with
RISC OS. Hopefully it'll work with my Belkin print server too.
