lander and sim.

Hi,

could anyone tell me where to get the lander from. I remember I was very
impressed by it 13 years ago and I'd like to give it a try on my A7000+
which came w.o. any software (= w.o. hard disc), however. I've found an
adf but it's no good on my computer, the program gives an error at some
address during startup.

Cheers

The lander I mean was a mouse-controlled pod that had to be landed
in a real-time rendered 3D-landscape in a window. I then played it a lot
at the dealer's on a (then brand-new) A5000.

Don't think the program works on RO3.7, but it's on the Archiology site
as per my sig. Go to OS Discs, and RISC OS 2 App2.zip, and pull down the
Zip file.

Cheers

Right, this one doesn't work on RO3.7, but it's not the application I'm
looking for either. The lander I mean was a mouse-controlled pod that had
to be landed in a real-time rendered 3D-landscape in a window. Since I then
played it a lot at the dealer's on a (then brand-new) A5000, I have some
hope it would run on my A7000+ (if I could find it).

I think actually it is the application you're looking for, but IIRC someone
produced an addon hack which enabled that app to run in a window.

If it doesn't work, how do you know it's the wrong one? However, the
Lander on App Disc 2 for RISC OS 2 is the one and only, and involves
flying a mouse controlled thing over a 3D rendered landscape. There is
an evolution of it, called Zarch, which was a retail product. It also
took over full screen.

I think Alex is right in his post when he mentions a hack that ran
Lander in a window, thinking about it. It might even be on one of the
Dealer discs on Archiology, but if it is I don't know which.

Good point! I simply concluded it from the fact that I got mailed a
different game named lander in which you have to fly through a 2D-maze. The
sprite of the lander, however, looks exactly like the sprite of the !lander
directory of the Apps2 you pointed me to. But I can't be sure, of course,
and memory can deceive me after so many years. But of course I'd like to be
wrong here. Now would there by any hopes to get it working under RISC OS
3.71?

For Zarch there is one : <URL: http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ;
but not StrongARM compatible.

Aha. According to the screenshot this looks like the one I want.
On http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Lander (290 KB): A free demogame for Zarch. A typical Acorn game!

And I know I tried that archive, but I get an internal error when I want
to start it :-( Is that a compatibility issue between the A5000 and the
A7000+? And can it be solved?

Well, I had *deleted* the other lander before installing the next one. And
then the sprites can be different.

The sprite will look the same. All applications with the same name will
have the same icon as the first application with that name seen by the
filer. Hold down the Shift key and doubleclick on the app, then
doubleclick on the !Sprites file to see what the icon really is.
