FreeUK Access Number Change

FreeUK Access Number Change

Post by Richard Sp » Fri, 03 Sep 2004 04:30:33

The other day I accessed a URL without using a proxy and received an
error page saying the FreeUK access number had been changed to
0844 5350802. Previously I had been using 0845 088 1234. Strangely, I
can still use 088 1234 for access via www-cache.freeuk.net:3128.

FreeUK describe this as 'another local rate number' but the Phone Book
says the charges can be up to 5p/minute (presumably at any time of the
day). I'm fairly sure no email from FreeUK has got lost, and I feel this
approach to be rather underhand.

Has anyone else seen this error page? Have I missed an announcement? Is
there another 'real' local rate 0845 I can use?

If anyone can shed any light I would be grateful.

TIA

Thanks, works here too news/email/ftp/http with/without proxy. I vaguely
remeber using this number way back, but think I was advised to change
over.

Fingers crossed, problem solved :-)

< XXXX@XXXXX.COM >:

You might have been advised to change over *to* this number, as I was in
June 2002: it replaced some other 1234 numbers. FreeUK have not yet
notified me that it is no longer current.
