Gigabit switch

Gigabit switch

Post by Roy K Gill » Tue, 22 Jun 2004 00:39:06

I now have Iyonix desktop and Apple G4 computers (networked) and a Windows
laptop at work that I sometimes bring home and connect to the network. The
first two support gigabit networking (but the laptop only 100) so I thought
it was time to upgrade my old 10MBit hub to a Gigabit capable switch, and
Netgear do one which costs just over 0, but it notes 'compatible with PC
and Mac'. Is there any reason why it would not work with the Iyonix? Do
these switches require any software to work? Or will it simply be a case
of plugging everything together like the hub, and it will work? Thanks.

Regards,

Roy

I demand that Roy K Gillard may or may not have written...

I wouldn't expect there to be any. That compatibility note is there for the
clueless ;-)

The latter, or there's something very odd about that switch :-)

Thanks for the confirmation Darren. I couldn't think why there would be a
problem, but decided I would ask those who know more about networking than
I do, before I went ahead with the purchase.
