I'm told that E-Bay's programming automatically inserts a lower
bid if the winning bid is higher than it needed to be. So it would
seem that if something sells for a high price, that means that two
or more bidders have bid up the price. Assuming that all bidders
are legitimate (and not shills), then that high price has been
reached as a fair reflection of market forces. If there had been
only one bidder who was trying to lock in success by bidding sky-
high, E-Bay's program would've knocked that amount down to a lower
figure. At least that's what I'm told.
