OT:POW Mistreatment (was:Most un-informed preside nt in History?)

Knowing 'Military Intelligence' as well as I do; I'm torn on this issue.

We called them "Spooks" when I was in the Navy and we dreaded the sight of
them when we WEREN'T actively at war. They made ANY trip miserable.

First, yes, the acts were despicable, but, I suppose useful in encouraging
captives to divulge useful information. Not QUITE torturing them, but
"agressively persuasive".

Second, if the acts WERE authorized by military intelligence, WHY are the
MP's bearing the consequences?

The commander of the prison has stated that that wing was under the control
of the Spooks. And the Prison guards claim they were following the orders of
the spooks.

The spooks practically invented the old saw "You can't make an omlet,
without breaking some eggs." Unfortunately, every time I've ever heard
about the poor "eggs" they've always been American military dumb enough to
think they were following orders--and the "chefs" were never punished.

Perhaps one of the list members can correctly identify whether this was
popularized by Lenin, or the New York Time's Pulitzer Prize winner, Duranty,
the hero of Ukranians everywhere.

But you never hear about someone say this, as they embark on a mission from
which they don't expect to return. The eggs are always someone else...

If Saddam were in power, this kind of abuse would go on where no one would
be allowed to photograph it. You have to say that for him. Only a few parts
of the West lack the sense to cover their indiscretions, or to allow others
to criticize the perpetrators for them. Why do that, when you can just fire
up one of those plastic shredding machines, and make the complaints all go
away?
