iWEB

A few days ago in a NewsWire Daily e-mail I read about this european
5250 to WEB converter named iWEB. I checked in their site, they appear
to be italian, poor english.
Nevertheless, I went through their documentation, they talk a lot about
java, but apparently that is just another screenscraper. Any experience
so far? I just do not want to waste my time for nothing.
Thanks.

I have been in touch with those people for a few months, trying to use
their iWEB product.
You are right. They claim that your 5250 programs will be converted to
an object-based java presentation.
However, though they provide some Java applet, there is no avantage at
all from it.
Their Java presentation is really poor, wonder why they did it, some
plain html would have provided better results and far better
performance.
Subfile presentation is rather humoristic. It seems they have no
reasonable control on them.
Performance is not as good as they claim. Though they use CGI, they do
not really seem to know the rules of the game.
Maintenance of converted applications is a nightmare: you will never be
in control, you will hate the day you started to use their tool.
Support is beyond any worst expectations. I had the chance to talk to
their chief designer several times.
This is a guy who blows sentences all the way, but he has no real
knowledge of what he is saying. I also suspect he does not have a real
experience with ILE. We had a horrible set of bugs and he was promising
that they would be fixed in days. After months, the same bugs are
there, in spite of several releases they did.
They do not really seem to be in control of what they release. Any new
realese, instead of fixing existing bugs, would provide new bugs in
previously working features.

If you are looking for advice, yes, this is it: keep far away!

I suspect that both post and replay come from the same troll. Look at headers on
it.comp.as400 ng too: they appear surprisingly similar.
