OK, so bad enough that there's no save anywhere ... and they crank the
difficulty by getting stingy with savepoints in later missions ...

...so I'm on the last mission, FINALLY after many frustrating retrys
get the the final boss (SAM) and the stupid crappy game crashes.

Argggggghhhh! What a freaking joke.

A lesson to all of us, try and calm down before you post messages here!

Yeah, the final mission was a pain, even without crashing.
But the ending is truly worth it. Something very apart from
all these standard-hero-saves-the-world- *** of other
shooters.

Anyone referring to Mafia as a 'stupid crappy game' is overreacting
somewhat. His message didn't have a point, games crash, it happens to all of
us, ranting about it doesn't help.

Games do crash - but it's another matter entirely when you can't save
whenever you want. Mafia is a good game, but it does have a crappy save
system - rants like this are inevitable.

And I believe Joe was quite clear exactly why he was ranting, and that it
was a rant. Joe62 certainly has the capability to write a balanced review,
it should have been quite clear this was pure venting - and comical at that,
as it didn't happen to me. :)

This mission has also a trick which will help a lot - like the
exploding railway car in the harbour mission.

You must hide behind a balcony ledge. Position yourself and turn in
such a way that you can see Sam on the opposite side but he can't see
you.

After few moments he will start to turn around, listening to where you
are. When his back is turned, step into window and shoot either single
shots or short bursts with the Tommy. Don't get greedy, slip back into
safety ASAP. Then just do it again until he escapes.




Yes. It is worth to go thru the trouble of killing Sam to see the
ending. I also recommend to go to Extreme Free Ride mode after you
have finished the game - the Extreme missions are quite a lot of fun.

A day later, I can even grin about it myself. For some reason nothing
is funnier than other people being angry at a machine. ;-)

Anyway, kids, any game you buy from these ass-wipes is going to be hosed code-wise in some way.

Oh really? I didn't know these were the H&D guys. While Mafia is
superior in every way to that fiasco, it does explain a few things.

Dangerous'?

Vietcong is done by Illusion Softworks too, some of the same guys that did
H&D I think. It's pretty buggy as far as games go, although recent patches
have made it slightly more stable To their credit, I'm enjoying Vietcong,
far, far more than I ever did Mafia or H&D.

Pterodon developed Vietcong. Illusion Softworks provided funding and
distribution.

Hey Joe, had you success to finish this game after all? The game crash for
me right in the end too, loading the 'Epilogue' and when I want to try the
'Free Ride' missions at the default setting. I've tried hard but even with
the patch it keeps happen, maybe you have some tips?

I tride it again, and it did crash - but this time it created the
savegame file, so I was able to load that and finish the game.

So, did you no see the final story movie? That really sucks, that's a
good part of the story.
