Building a new *** computer and want some input.

The Core 2 duo E6750 is about 30% cheeper than the E6850.
Is the extra money worth it?

I looked at this chart but cant make up my mind.

Would you notice 5-10 FPS in most games (less at higher resolutions)?
If so there may be your answer.

i don't think so. only if you care about benchmarking.

Isn't benchmarking game performance? 7 FPS in a Crysis benmark is 7
FPS in the game (arbitrary number, but just saying).

i would say get whatever CPU is cheaper because all that really
matters is the GPU anyway.

I built 2 *** rigs around the E6420. I overclocked this chip it to
run at 3.2ghz on stock cooling. I also had the Evga 8800 GTS 640 and
at the time (summer '07) could play all the latest games max
resolution and all that , of course that was on my 1440x900 19" lcd.

not really. there comes a point where cost outweighs the practical
benefits.

for example, at tomshardware -

supreme commander - e6750 46.6 fps, e6850 50.3 fps
prey - 117.7, 121.7

not the best examples, although supreme commander is pretty demanding. i
don't think anyone's going to notice the difference unless they run a
benchmarking program or leave "show fps" on.
