Ah - the Dreamcast. Shenmue is the only console game (other than perhaps
the original Sonic on the Megadrive) that I played for hours and hours.

Strange to see Planescape Torment in there. It's a brilliant game but
it was a commercial success.

Thus spake Morgan < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >, Fri, 08 Jan 2010 17:23:16 +0000,
Anno Domini:

^^^^^^

Did you mean 'was is' or 'wasn't' perhaps Morgan?
I bet if Bioware remade it in HD graphics, with heaps of cut scenes, fully
voiced & with heaps of icons & lots more action elements, it would become an
instant hit with the ADD-gen <EG>. Actually, that's a possible avenue
developers could explore, ala Indiana Jones and the Fate pf Atlantis - give
players the option of multiple paths through the game from early on:
brawn/action/twitch, or mind/puzzle/storyline, or an AI companion who
assists you & gives you hints along the way. Wonder why almost no on has
done this in any game to date...? Not only would it allow greater replay for
the *** gamers, but it would also enable a quicker/easier path through
the game for casual/less cerebral players perhaps (no offense intended to
anyone - I'd probably opt for the 'easy' or action/casual route on many
occasions myself ;).

"Wasn't." My dyslexia must have been kicking in. :-)

My personal "LOL" moment from that link was the long descriptive tag
appended to The Sims: "The People Simulator from the Creator of
SimCity".

You'd probably see a reversed tag on SimCity packaging these days.

Well, that list is from January when sales were probably slow. Look at
the December 1999 ones (it was released on the 12th) where it was #78.
By Feburary it was down to #32 and in March it was #27.
