Interesting piece, makes me wonder why somebody (big) hasn't done a big
screen version.

Seemed to get rave reviews on the Utube comments.

Very nicely done as well. Must say that some sort of movie must be hidden
somewhere.

Bring on the Half-Life Screenplay......................

Interestingly, I found this through Steam; I guess the Valve team is really
impressed by it. Steam's "Update News" has a link to youtube about it,
along with the following intro text...

"The short film Escape from City 17: Part One, viewable on YouTube via the
link below, was inspired by the Half-Life 2 episodes and chronicles the
escape from City 17 by some members of the citizens resistance. It was
created by The Purchase Brothers, a commercial directing duo, and their
small team based in Toronto, Canada. They have been Half-Life enthusiasts
from the start and have created this short, the first in a series, on a
shoestring budget using handmade costumes, some donated equipment, and the
Source SDK, not to mention lots of their own *** , sweat and (we assume)
tears. It was sent to Valve unannounced, and we were blown away -- the
production quality certainly exceeds that of the usual community-made movies
we see. We're told the second episode is nearing completion, and we can't
wait to see what's in store. We hope that you enjoy the series."

Fourth question in on the interview linked below gave Valve's view in
2006. Same questions been raised a few times since but as far as I can
see that view hasn't changed...

Its in 10 other sci-fi novels and movies, which is exactly the problem
with turning a game like Half Life into a movie... They're making a
movie out of a game that already copies most of its elements from
movies.

Anyone familiar with HP Lovecraft will see the dimensional
teleportation themes between Half Life and From Beyond. The Resonance
Cascade in Half Life is pretty much a literal copy of Lovecrafts theme
in From Beyond. When Half Life 2 came out, it starts looking a lot
more like 1984 (Wallace Breen = Big Brother) and Farenheit 451, as
well as any number of generic apocolypse movies.

I'm not saying other games don't do what Half Life did, but when you
start getting pop culture feeding off itself for anything other than
parody, the results are silly.

Its a movie based on a video game that took nearly all of its plot
points from movies. So the story you're lookin for is mostly in From
Beyond, 1984 and The Visitor (ugh).

Indeed! Is this some amateur production? Amazing what is possible today!

The thing is that the "story" seem to be unfinished. No closure. Just
a sporadic moment from a life of the rebels. And this is combined with
the bad acting skills of that Asian guy.
