My Review of Far Cry

After Purchasing and playing FAR CRY For hours, I was simply amazed at
most of the graphics and physics in the game. The nicest graphics are
of the outdoors with ocean, trees and mountains waiting to be
explored. Unfortunately this game is simply detroyed by way too many
enemies. You can't go too far without dozens of enemies with amazing
skills shooting you. This results in too many reloads on one level and
you lose the fun of exploring the island to enjoy the scenery at all.
Then there are times where you are inside where the amazing graphics
are not that much better than say RTCW Or Call of duty games.
with 20 levels to complete, and some levels you will be loading
20-30 times to even complete, you better have weeks free to complete
this title.
Is the game bad? no. The AI Is quite good and graphics are best I
have ever seen to date. But near impossible without cheating.

Sam < XXXX@XXXXX.COM > Quoth The Raven:

yeah I got sick of not being able to explore without causing alarm. I am a
game explorer mostly anyhow, its my style to enter the creators realm and
wonder about it, being untouchable, so it bothering me that the game style
encouraged you to move through to the next target quickly. sure you had 2 or
3 approaches to the target, but none of them gave you time to look sideways.
so I turned on god mode to allow myself to explore the rich environment (but
then the stupid killcopters come out to play and there is damage terrain
ruining the view and once you get over the impassable terrain, all details
vanish.)

I think you raise an excellent point. I have thought the same thing
of Asheron's Call 2. Beautiful outdoor areas waiting to be explored,
but constantly being attacked makes it difficult to explore and enjoy
the sense of place.

I would love to see a new genre: first-person exploration.

I have to agree, the game is way too difficult, it has made me resort
to using god mode to get to play it with any enjoyment. I like games
that allow me to sneak around and be imaginative like Deus Ex or to a
different degree Vietcong, but the superhuman A"I" of the enemy
soldiers and the way too tough monsters in Far Cry spoils the game for
me.

There's already a genre like that. It's called "Myst" and sequels and
clones.

Don't forget Return to Zork. Gawd that was tedious! Pretty, but tedious.

I was so tickled to see another Zork title that I was willing to put up with
just about anything. :-)
