Sound cards vs. DOS

Any thoughts about which AOpen pci card would have a
better chance of making sounds with my old dos games?
AW744 or AW850 ?

The AW744 uses the Yamaha YMF744 chipset.
The AW850 uses the C-Media CMI8738-MX chipset.
I have heard the Yamaha is good but have found nothing on the CMI8738.

Well, I don't know anything about the Yamaha chip but I expect it
sounds better than the C-Media. C-Media will have dos drivers for sure
though because my mb has C-Media and I know it has dos drivers
available. I use an Audigy2 which barely supports Win98SE, never mind
Dos.

Thank you for that info. I think I'll go ahead and get the
AOpen AW850D DELUXE. It supposedly does everything.
For $27 at directron.com I won't be out too much.
Paul.

I'll eventually write back and let everyone know how it worked out.

You made the right choice. I think the Yamaha YMF744 has *some* DOS
compability, while I know the C-Media has none.

Then why does C-Media have dos drivers?
