Soundblaster Audigy limitations......... help!

Post by rexduffi » Thu, 29 Jan 2004 01:44:01

I downloaded a rather large soundfont sample through natural-studio.uk
(great free samples) I think the size was 18MB- probably not too large
for a grand piano. I keep getting the message that my dram on the
soundcard is not large enough, and the so I get no sound. Anyone have
any fixes for this. Do I need a different, higher powered soundcard
with more dram? Thanks, I'll now hang up and listen to your answer!

This is an easy one and you are 99% of the way there. I assume you set up
your new soundfont using Creatives "SoundFont Bank Manager", found under
Start>Creative>Audigy***>Soundfont_bank_manager or just
Start>Creative>Soundfont_bank_manager.

The step you are missing is increasing the soundfont cache size, you'll find
that option if you hit the "Midi Devices" button, and I would suggest moving
it up to say 24MB. There are a couple of pitfalls: firstly if you only want
to use a single soundfont you should select your existing sound font under
the "Bank" button and then *replace* it with your new sound font rather than
just *load* your new soundfont; secondly, to get rid of your normal sound
font you'll need to replace it on BOTH soundfont devices (again the
selection can be found in the "Midi Devices" button).
