Refreshing Toshiba lithium battery using Windows XP

I'm using Lithium-ion battery on my Toshiba Satellite S5150-501. In
the Power Options Properties under control panels there is an option
to refresh the battery if you click on the battery icon.

The battery on this laptop is about a year and three months old. It
lasts about 1 hour tops and wondered if anyone else is getting this
meager battery life. What are the benefits of refreshing? Will this
help or hinder?

Thanks

That refresh is to update the power status of the battery. It has
nothing to do with the actual battery performance. If this is a P4 or
P4M laptop, this battery life is not unexpected. You can enhance
battery life by judicious use of the screen brightness, and agressive
use of HD spindown and turning off the display. If you have a PC-Card
NIC or wireless, it can be a power drain.

And the 'Power Options' Control Panel is usually almost totally disabled
if you have installed Toshiba's power management drivers, which have a
different Control Panel interface, and generally do a much better job ..
especially with Toshiba hardware.

I think the OP may need to install the right drivers for his machine.
