IBM T20 2647-46U HDD installation problem

Post by edinhel » Sun, 09 Apr 2006 04:43:45

I have an IBM T20 that I'm trying to upgrade the hard drive on. I am
replacing the original 12GB with a 5400RPM 60GB. I have cloned the
data and can boot the new drive on my desktop, but whenever I insert
the new drive into the notebook, it will not recognize it. I have
upgraded the BIOS to version 1.22. Please help, this is quite a
humbling experience at this point.

Thanks,

Ed.

Oh yeah, the new drive is a Seagate.

When you say cloned, I imagine that you meant that you ghosted it. That
should work fine, and a T20 should recognize a drive that big.

If you did a manual copy of your files to the new drive, then <ooops> that
may not work. Tell us how you prepared your new hard drive. Most of us do
what you've done rather routinely, and there is usually no special magic
involved. dr

Yes, I used Norton Ghost and an intermediate hard drive inside a
desktop. I only had one 2.5 to IDE converter, but it should work fine.
The other drive is fine as well. This is Win XP with FAT 32, but I
only set up 20GB for the image on the new drive (once this drive is in,
I plan to coinvert to NTFS).
