RDC for MacBook Pro

Post by Robert Pei » Wed, 13 Jun 2007 03:57:11

I used Microsoft's RDC on my PowerBook and never had any problems. It
actually works on the MBP, but it is supposed to be only for PowerPC and
it doesn't work quite right.

I checked VersionTracker for RDC programs and they only list
Microsoft's. However, there must be somebody else who has these. Any
leads?

if you run x-windows, you can compile and use the open-source
rdesktop.

Otherwise, you're stuck with MS's implementation, but, then,
it's of no use except for talking to MS machines anyway.

I don't run x-windows, although I guess I could. However, I'm not sure
what that would get me. I really only need it for one Windows machine.

When I needed to RDC from my mac at home, rdesktop was the
main reason I ran X. I found it to be better than MS's RDC.

When my then-employer proved RDC via Citrix, I stopped.

There is also CoRD <URL: http://www.yqcomputer.com/ > which does not need
you to be running X.

I just learned about a LogMeIn.com beta for Mac OS X. It seems to
work, and there is a Free version.
< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ;

It is a lot less difficult to setup and use than a VNC setup,
especially across the internet and through home NAT routers and
firewalls.

Go get the latest version off Microsoft's web site. I use RDC all the
time on a MacBook Pro (Core Duo) and a MacPro. It works fine on both.
