iPod remote on iBook

Hi,

The connector from the iPod remote (2nd generation, 20 GB _without_
dock) plugs into headphone port on my 900 MHz G3 iBook. I was quite
e *** d, I thought I could control iTunes using the remote... but it
didn't work:(

So I wonder why does the remote fit into the iBook if it doesn't work?
perhaps Apple intended to support itin OSX, but didn't finish the
drivers???

Interesting, though I am shocked to see that some people plug anything
anywhere, just because it fits.

It fits because it was designed to go between earbuds/ headphones and
an iPod. It has a standard audio plug. It was designed to work with an
iPod, nothing else.

Huh? Have you looked at the SHAPE of the headphone port on the iBook? It
has the EXACT SAME SHAPE, INCLUDING THOSE REMOTE CONNECTORS as the iPod.
Sorry about the CAPS, but I need to emphasize somehow that the iPod and
iBook have the same audio connector.

The remote has a third channel in addition to the two stereo channels
that allows it to communicate with the iPod. If you look carefully at
the remote, you can see the extra channel. The iBook doesn't support
this third channel.

Apple cleverly used this design so that either the remote or the
headphones could be directly plugged into the iPod.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Right. I agree 100%

But if you look carefully at the audio connector on the iBook, you will
see that the 3rd channel is there. maybe it's not connected to iBook's
motherboard, possible, but it is *there*. Wouldn't it be cool if we
could control iTunes from the Remote?
