CAnnot type lowercAse 'A's Anymore (solved!)

I hAve the germAn keyboArd lAyout, And I did not instAll Anything thAt
explicitly fiddles with the keyboArd.

The lAst thin I instAlled before I noticed the bug wAs the PAlm-Desktop
version 4 + A softwAre cAlled "SmArt TrAsh".

whilst typing this followup, its exactly "Smart Trash" that put up an
empty-trash notice each time I hit the "a" key...

SmartTrash has a shortcut menu, where you can choose the key together
with the modifier keys. I unchecked all modifier keys, thinking this
will disable the shortcut altogether, but heck, no! Since the key
selector remained in the "A" position, the shortcut was assigned purely
and simply to the "a" key.

But as long as no files were in the trash, hitting the "a" key had no
effect on SmartTrash... !

Thanks for your help anyway, and have a good time!
Martin

I have been enjoying your posts immensely. I'm glad you got it fixed, but
it was fun reading. A little like, "Help, my finger's stuck in the keyboard
and I can't get out!"

This, of course, raises the very important point that there is no way to
get a list of all universal system-level "hot keys" currently in effect.
This is a huge functionality hole. m.

In article <1lvx312fxwcuz$.1bxqrsprjzqdw$ XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Reminded me of an old (probably from the typewriter days) joke
consisting of a letter to the customer service department about a
keyboard with a broken S key. Tho all the etheth were replaced by
tee-aycheth, like thith.
