CodeWarrior 9.x crashing on Tiger

CodeWarrior 9.x crashing on Tiger

Post by hunglikeei » Fri, 04 Mar 2005 03:38:02

I'm seeing some pretty gnarly crashes with CodeWarrior 9.x on the
latest Tiger seeds and was wondering if anybody has any insight. We've
got a build script that invokes CW via AppleScript to build roughly 150
or so different projects and targets. It works great with Panther or
Jaguar, but these tiger seeds are causing CW to hang.

With a fresh install of Tiger, the script runs CW as expected: for each
project and target, launching CW, opening the project, selecting the
appropriate target, building, saving logs, etc. On subsequent runs,
however, CW hangs seemingly randomly: after launching, opening a
project, selecting a target and beginning the build, CW will hang and
become unresponsive while compiling a random file in the project. It
doesn't exercise the CPU while it's in this state, and after Force
Quitting or Killing the process, the process dies but CW remains in the
dock and the Finder won't return. The only way to get out of this
state is to do a hard reboot.

I've tried this on two different machines, a dual 450 and a 733, both
with plenty of RAM, and with both CW 9.3 and 9.4. I know these are old
machines, which may be part of the problem, and we've got a G5 on
order. That's my next dead chicken to wave at this thing.

Has anybody else seen this? Any ideas? Or does this just sound like a
beta OS and i'm s.o.l. until Apple and MW officially support tiger?

Thanks,
David

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Tiger is under NDA, so should not be talked about here. Please file a
bug in radar. Apple's policy is to (try their best) to maintain
backwards compatibility, so you should definitely file it.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Your usage of Tiger is covered by your NDA with Apple and can't be
discussed here. If you're seeing problems with it, please file bug
reports at < http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ;.

Thanks,
Eric

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

This sounds like somebody is holding onto a lock down in the file system
somehow..

(not making any Tiger specific comments here..)

We used to have problems somewhat like this one with CW on 10.2 and 10.3
after a few iterations of script driven builds - after a few upsets we
changed our script to quit and re-launch CW after each built project.
Hasn't borked since. Only adds a few seconds per .mcp. YMMV.

Thanks for the NDA warning. Duly noted.

As for the 10.2/10.3 suggestions, yeah, somebody in-house mentioned
trying this. I'll give it a whirl.

thanks, all
