Hardware diagnostics

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that something is wrong on
the motherboard. I put a spare CDR on the G4 and it works just
fine -- obviously the original DVD was dead. Tried to re-install
system 9.1 and it just hung (repeatedly) at the point where it
really starts to install the software.

I re-initialized the HD (Mac OS Extended format) and tried again.
Hung again. Tried a custom install with just OS 9.1. Hung again.

Which leads me to a hardware problem.

Any suggestions? Any ideas what software tools are out there
that I can use to check motherboard/hardware/whatever?

Otherwise I have a new doorstop.

thanks

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Especially if that "spare CDR" is not from Apple, remove it and retry
the install.

Is this a Quicksilver G4?

< XXXX@XXXXX.COM >:

What kind of G4 is this ? Some of them won't run OS 9.1.

Simon.
