Can you use two PCI video cards in a beige G3?

I want to use two monitors on a beige G3. I have a Rage 128 PCI card but
the on-board video no longer seems to work. Is there any reason I can't
just get another video card?

Also, any debugging tips for the onboard vid? It's weird that it just
died.

If you have a spare PCI slot, it should be no problem. Heck get a video
card that allows you to attach 2 monitors, and go triple headed. If you
have 2 spare PCI slots, add to video cards that support 2 heads each and
go to a 5 headed beast :-)

Unfortunately, you can't.

The Mac (be it OSX or older) is limited to a maximum of five displays.

Had 6 monitors running off of a Mac II running System 7.something once
long ago. Worked fine.

Most I ever hung on my Mac II was 4 - Didn't have any more cards to plug
into it. And I was on 7.something, also. 7.5.1, I *THINK*. (It's been
too many years for me to be certain)

I did it in the mid-90's at a computer recycling place while I was
working on Macs. The PC people didn't believe you could do it. So we
got 6 Nubus video cards, 6 of the Apple 13" monitors and arranged them
in an interesting pattern - than matched that pattern in the monitors
control panel. It was real fun watching one of the PC techs run the
mouse pointer from monitor to monitor and the pointer showing up where
you expected it to.

I'd love to know how you managed to pull that off, I've tried a few
times over the years -- the last time was a few years ago with a IIfx
and six "Toby" original cards, under 7.1 -- and the most I could get
fire up was five monitors. No matter how the cards were arranged in the
IIfx, five was all we could get fired up.

I could have any one slot empty (A through F) empty, all five would
power up and be recognised by the Monitors control panel, but pop a
sixth card in and the card in slot A would always go missing.

*shrug*

If I could lay my hands on six twin-head PCI cards, I've a 9600 that
could be used for test-bedding. Trouble is, twin-head PCIs are rather
rare. Oh well :)
