We will have some available before too long - well disk interfaces. Supply
your own drive !

The Oric Microdisc drives are rare beasts and it's probably a good idea not
to sell your Telestrat so that you can use the drive on the Atmos. (That
works, doesn't it ?)

D'oh !

not

No, because Telestrat drives are slave drives since the disk controler is in
the Telestrat itself.
It's also why if you try to plug an Atmos master drive (with controleur
inside), you will fry both the drive and the telestrat disk controler.

When the stuff arrives I'll need to sort through it and see what I can get
up and running. I can't say yet when or how much. It'll get announced when I
have something available. Also CEO should have half the interfaces that were
saved from Hoppsy.
I need to see whether they need cases buying and such detail which will
effect what price they are.

I do have a couple of Microdisc boards that I need to try and get working.
The English boards were prone to overheating and there was a modification
made to the drive and an addition to the Atmos to make them work better. I
have a system to get working of this type. The problem is the modified Atmos
won't work on it's own and the modified drive wont' work with an ordinary
Atmos so I need to get the whole thing up and running. There's meant to be
an external Atmos adaptation to allow a unmodified Atmos to work with the
modified drive but I haven't found that very successful.
The Microdisc mod is supposedly how the French Microdiscs were produced, so
they don't have the overheating problem, but I don't know all the details.
Anyway, if I can get this system working then I want to make up a working
Microdisc and then I can sell on at least one Microdisc system, hopefully.

But a Telestrat drive would work as a slave for an Atmos wouldn't it ?

Will do. I was talking to Twilighte today and he says there's no components
on the circuit boards so they'll take a while to sort out.

Why bother?, if you have a telestrat and can get yourself an Atmos
cartridge, then you have everything in one place ;)

So that you can write the software to the disk. How can you write to a
cartridge? - hey, what about connecting Oric to a pen drive ? That'd be the
way to transfer data. It should be possible to connect something via the
RS232. (You did keep that Oric modem safely, didn't you now? Remember not
to get rid of any of that old Oric gear. It may come in useful one day !!!)

i have been thinking about mass storage for ages,
i can make an interface for compact-flash for example,
and i can do assembler or raw hex coding but know nothing about filesystem
design.

is there any documented source for any oric dos roms about that i could use
as a base?

i'm not interested in usb btw, it's too fast - 12mhz clock and not
reliable.
it would take far to much space trying to handle the crappy FAT32
filesystem too.

compact flash has onboard automatic error-detect-remap so you dont need to
do any checks for bad cells when you write to it!

what i wanted to do was like a giant oric floppy with up to 4gig of space
:)
