Form Locking - 'Could Not Update Currently Locked'

Form Locking - 'Could Not Update Currently Locked'

Post by SmFtSmF » Sat, 11 Sep 2004 17:23:01

I have inherited a database used by around 40 people on a daily basis for
input/amendment and review of instances of client contact. This form is
linked to a main table, with all fields having their control sources in that
table.

There is an embedded sub form, based on a second table which displays, and
is used to capture the account numbers relating to the specific instance of
client contact, so there can be multiple accounts per contact.

The problem is that the second of these tables (and related sub form)
becomes locked, so anyone attempting to create a new record (editing existing
records is fine) experiences a momentary *** of access, then is told
ould not update; currently locked

If I request all users to log out of the package the lock will be removed.
The form is set to No Locks, so I am not sure why this is happening in the
first instance. The DB has very little security, so it is possible for users
to access tables and forms directly, however all users are non technical and
assure me they are using nothing but the form.

I have little experience of forms of this nature in Access, being more an
Excel type, can anyone help?

Thanks in advance, James.

2. Form will not allow data entry - currently locked error

I have a form in Acc03 that has 2 subforms. One subform is a datasheet that
allows users to enter transactions performed throughout the day. The other
form allows users to enter time used for things other that transactions. The
main form holds the date, user name and summary information. The users are
getting the "could not update currently locked" error at different times
through out the day. The database options are set to Shared, Edited Records
and Open databases using record-level locking.
1) how can I solve this problem
2) in Acc97 if locking occurs the message would read "could not update,
currently locked by Username". How can it get it to show in Acc03?

Thanks
