is there a way i can have my program generate a file from output? i
only know how to have it print out

I think you are asking how do I write to a file. There are hundreds
of different ways. The file I/O Amanuensis will generate you code for
most of them (except nio).

java HelloWorld > output.txt

(that is a way in windows, to direct System.out
to a file named output.txt..)
