IO::Seekable::getpos missing (auto/IO/ not loading) ?

I just did a fresh install of Solaris 10 on Sparc. The OS ships with
perl_5.8.4. When I run some of my scripts that run fine on Linux, I get

IO::Seekable::getpos missing at /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.6/
line 59.
Compilation failed in require at
/home/steve/Development/Tools/common/putil/Eq/Util/ line 6.

Looking around in various discussion groups, I see that others have had
similar problems on other platforms, and in two cases it has been
suggested that auto/IO/ is not loading. I guess must contain
the missing getpos method. I have not found a solution to the problem.

I tried upgrading to Perl version 5.8.6, but I get the same error from
that version.

Can anyone explain why this is happening, and better yet, how to fix it?
If so, I'd be ever in your debt.

1. Not DOS interrupts, I want direct IO (memory mapped IO)

2. System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories() and System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() are not returning the specified directory

I have an ASP.NET application which displays the directories & files in a
specified directory on the server. I use the
System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories() and System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() to
retrieve the lists of files and directories. I have two very similar
versions of this that I am debugging, both of which use the methods
mentioned above. However, one of them is returning the contents of the
specified directory and the other is returning the contents of the project's
directory. I have checked to see what values are used by and returned by
System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories() and System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(), and
they use the values I expect, but do not return the directories and files in
that directory. What is going on here?
