Select A3, insert the formula below, and fill down:

=IF(COUNTIF(D3,"*"&$A$8&"*"),D3,"DAY OFF")

BTW - not case sensitive.

One way:

=IF(COUNTIF(D3:D5,"DT"),INDEX(A1:A3,MATCH("DT",D1:D3,FALSE)),"DAY OFF")

Yes, it's possible. When your layout doesn't match what's required for
VLOOKUP, you use a combination of INDEX and MATCH:

=IF(ISNA(MATCH(A8,$D$3:$D$5,0)),
"DAY OFF",INDEX($A$3:$A$5,MATCH(A8,$D$3:$D$5,0))))
