Maybe I am experiencing the same problem as the original
writer does. So I'll try give you more data about.
The Fax Transport is correctly present and configured in
the profile. Any non-graphic message or attachment (such
as .DOC or .PDF, if Acrobat Reader is installed) are
correctly sent to the fax recipient.
Outlook hangs when it starts rendering a JPEG or GIF image
(I didn't tried other image formats), either as a message
background picture or as an attached file.
The hang occurs when the Fax Transport launches MS Photo
Editor to handle the image. Photo Editor icon appears in
the application bar but it does not end anymore.
The send/receive operation, if observed in details, stays
stuck on the Fax Transport Sending phase.
This behaviour occurs independently of the message format:
HTML, RTF or Word. In this last case, Word 2000 emits
an interesting error message before *** , that sounds
like: "could not find the specified file", with a
temporary file name reported.
It also seems that it's not a matter of which default
printer is selected, or even which application is
associated by default to .GIF or .JPG file types. I tried
to set the Fax Image Viewer as the default application,
but Outlook still launches MS Photo Editor to render the
I have observed all that on a Win XP SP1 machine with
Office 2000 Pro and Outlook 2002, connected to a Small
Business 2000 SP1 Exchange server. I have applied all
the patches available from Windows Update and Office
Update, but the problem still persists.
Hope you (or MS) can help us.
