Missing Attachments in Outlook 2007/Outlook 2010 Beta.

Hi,

We are experiencing a missing attachment issue in Outlook 2007/Outlook 2010
beta from Outlook 2003. These attachments are in messages forwarded as
attachments and received via our Exchange 2010 installation. The attachments
*are* visible from Outlook WebApp. In Outlook 2007/2010 the message has no
paperclip icon, yet the message is of the correct size.

From my rather long investigation, it appears that these certain messages
from Outlook 2003 include a Content-ID header, which is typically used for
referencing embedded attachments, such as inline JPGs for HTML pages. The
issue in Outlook 2007/Outlook 2010 is that when a message has a Content-ID
field that is not referenced then the attachment is hidden.

A sample header of the bad message is as follows:

Content-Type: application/msword;
name="6. 27.01.2010.doc"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-ID: <f0de3905-64e1-4dd8-8898-2e3e033da1c1>

0M8R4KGxGuEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPgADAP7/CQAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGAA

I've removed the Content-ID field and re-inserted the message and the
attachment appears.

I'm not entirely sure where this issue lies and have not been able to
identify precisely which release of Outlook 2003 is generating the message.

Any ideas for troubleshooting this issue?

Thanks

Jason

Have you reported this in the beta forums for Outlook 2010? You should. I
hope you're not using Exchange 2010 or Outlook 2010 in a production
environment.
