Poison Pill for WM5?

Want a freeware utility that REQUIRES a password when you power
on a WM5 PPC. If the exact password is not entered within 10 seconds,
no second chances,
or no attempt is made within 10 seconds, it should put up a
diversion screen such as, "loading preferences, please wait" while
doing the equivalent of a hard reset and overwriting all of
persistent memory and ram.

Wow. So what happens when the device wakes up from an SMS, an
alarm, a phone call, the occasional spontaneous soft reset due to
a signal issue or just accidentally pressing the power button?

Let Mike worry about that - and be glad that you don't have to :-)

I am just trying to avoid a future post entitled "My girlfriend
turned on my device and in 10 seconds, it cleared the memory. How
do I get it back?" ;-)

What, no smoke or recording that this device will self destruct in x
seconds? ;)

Man, no second chances is harsh (Have you never used a PPC while on
bumpy transportation?), but having it disintegrate without even an entry
attempt is way beyond paranoid.

Why not depend on the selfdestruct feature of Windows Mobile WM5 with AKU 2?
You can set that people have x chances of entering a password. If they enter
the wrong ones, poof! it is gone.....

If you backup your data, erasure is a minor inconvenience.
Exposure of your client list
can be problematic. Ask any Beltway madam.

Second chances invite forensic analysis.

And yes, I watch too much TV.

Well, while you are on this quest make sure the self destruct takes out
any storage card on the device as well. Often storage cards hold a lot
of data, a potential security risk. Small incendiary device, maybe? ;)

(But seriously, if a storage card is in use don't forget about it. A
hard reset of the device will in all likelihood not affect data stored
on such a card).
