Run an application made for PocketPC 2003 into PocketPC 2002

Hi,

I have an old Jornada PPC running with PocketPC 2002 and I would try
to use a software made for PocketPC 2003. When I try to run the
installation program the OS report me an error message telling that is
not possible to find the program or one of its components. Do you
think is absolutely impossible to use this software made for PPC 2003
into my PPC 2002 or, maybe, there is some missing dll or components
and I could manually add under Windows directory??
Thank you at all and excuse me for the quite stupind question :-)

Not absolutely impossible, but unlikely.

I _think_ the compiler and/or linker usually adds something to the
executable that causes problems. I remember seeing instructions on how
to eliminate this problem, but they were arcane and not something many
developers would bother doing.

Even without that, odds are somewhat high that a developer might
naively use a new feature not supported on the older operating system.
Without explicitly testing, a developer has no way of knowing. It
_might_ be a missing DLL, but is more likely a change in arguments, or
a new function in an existing DLL.

I've had luck running .net apps (2003 and up) on 2002 by installing the
compact .net framework... I don't remember the specifics or location of
the download, so google time.

Hi,

Thank you for your respose :-)

I'll try to make a search on Inaternet, thank you for the info

Usually when some function is missing from a DLL the error message is
like "The function xxxx was not found in the xxx.dll library", in my
case seem that a specific dll is totally missing (at least I hope). It
seem me very strange because the main difference between PocteckPC
2002 and 2003 is the introduction of the new .NET framework and there
are no other big changes (but I'm not very informed in this argument).
However I'll try to make some experiments.

I don't think the application is made under .NET platform, however
I'll check also this way, thank you
