Office Campatibility

I have a Cingular 8525 running WM5.0 with Mobile Microsoft Office. I have
Office 2007 on my PC. I cannot view Office 2007 files on my Pocket PC. Is
there a compatibility pack for Mobile Office that supports viewing Office
2007 files?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Softmaker Textmaker supposedly works with Office. You can download a trial
version to see if it helps.

Isn't one of the "upgrade" features of WM5, supposedly that pocket word will
now read desktop word documents in their native form without the need for
conversion? Did we loose that now with Office 2007 ?

Probably a stupid question, but are you saving the files that you are trying
to transfer in Office 2007 formats (.docx for Word, etc.) or in Office 2003
Compatibility format (.doc for Word, etc.)

Hello,

I posted on this yesterday in my RSS feed.

I've received word this afternoon regarding the compatibility between
Windows Mobile devices and Office 2007. There have been rumors
floating about that the XML-based files in Office 2007 were not
supported in Office Mobile on Windows Mobile device. I can now confirm
that this is indeed the case.

The new XML-based formats in Office 2007 are essentially a complete
redesign from previous versions. Indeed this rewrite is more
comprehensive than that between Office 95 and Office 97. Because of
this there is no mobile device on any platform or any 3rd party
application that can support the new file formats.

The plan from Microsoft is by mid-2007 to have an update for Windows
Mobile 5 devices so they can view and edit the files. Further, new
devices running the next version of Windows Mobile - codename Crossbow
- will be able to read the new file formats as well.

One should imagine though that you can always save your documents in the
pre-2007 formats. It's going to take a while for the Office 2007 formats
to become widespread and in the meantime there has to be backwards
compatibility.

Also, does TextMaker 2006 support the 2007 format? (I'm still using
2002, so don't know).

on, et al,

I got a response from SoftMaker:

We will do filters for Office 2007 documents, but it will take some
time to develop good working filters.

So the bottom line is right now TextMaker 2006 doesn't support the
2007 format either but they will be working on it.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, Clinton. I was planning to upgrade to TM2006 and that lack of
Office 2007 filters isn't that important to me yet. (I use Office 2004
on a Mac and it won't have filters until spring 07 anyway).

I suspect that that by the time I'm ready to use 2007, SoftMaker will
have the filters done.

Thanks for following up.

Don,

No problem on the follow up. I'm glad to help.

I think your view is probably valid for most people. Since Office
2007 is just now rolling out, adoption will take a while (especially
in the corporate world) and this probably won't be an issue for a few
months.

If you are going to get TextMaker 2006 go to my store and use coupon
code CFXMAS when you check out and you will get 20% off. :-) The url
