Activesynch on PC won't close

After any session using activesynch (either on my desktop or laptop pcs)
when I disconnect, I find activesynch continues to run on my PDA (Dell X5)
and the session has to be ended manually. I get the error message
"activesynch not responding it may be waiting for a response from you or
just stopped running."

Whilst this does not cause any problems, it is irritating.

Any suggestions as to why this happens and how to fix?
