Using ActiveSync 4.1 via Wireless network?

Using ActiveSync 4.1 via Wireless network?

Post by Tim Townse » Sat, 01 Apr 2006 00:09:42

Greetings all,
I have upgraded to AS4.1 and can no longer sync or even attach to my PC
using my in-home wireless network. From reading the discussion forum it
seem that this type of connection is no longer allowed.

Am I correct in my reading?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Best regards,
Tim Townsend

Using ActiveSync 4.1 via Wireless network?

Yes. Wireless sync to desktop Outlook is no longer supported, as of
ActiveSync 4.x. You can still sync wirelessly via Bluetooth or to an
Exchange Server, where suitable security is in place, but this has been
deemed a security risk for device/Outlook syncing and removed.

This page, written for the WM2003 OS, details how to sync via a PPTP VPN to
an XP desktop PC. It may be of help with this issue...

I don't have a WM5 device so I can't test it...

Sync is gone as is confirmed in other posts. You should still be able to
connect to share files, use Terminal Services & such though.IP over Wifi
isn't gone, just syncing over IP is gone, making syncing over Wifi history.
