Keeps wanting to create new partnership

Post by msnew » Tue, 15 Feb 2005 07:21:15

I have ipaq 3955. Occasionally I will place my ipaq on the cradle and
instead of syncing it will ask me to set up new partnership or log on as
guest. This is very annoying. I thought I could just make a new
partnership and then rename it or something, but I haven't had any luck. Is
there a way to rename a profile? Is there a way to make the active sync
recognize a profile that already exists instead of asking me to make a new
one? It is very frustrating. Thanks in advance.

If the Partnership Wizard comes up, then the partnership has been lost
for one reason or another and you need to re-create it. You cannot
rename a partnership, and you cannot get it to recognize an existing
partnership (for data integrity reasons - if you selected the wrong
partnership, you'd end up deleting everything on both your device and
on your computer). You can delete old partnerships by going File ->
Mobile Device -> <partnership name> then going File -> Delete
Partnership.

Is this constantly happening? If so, does it happen after you've done
anything in specific (ie changed something on the PC or the Pocket
PC), or is completely random?

File->Mobile Device is greyed out. It want let me delete it. I am up to
Pocket_PC4 now. If I could delete all of them, then start a new partnership
as Pocket_PC that would be great. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hrmmm... it shouldn't be greyed out. Are you logging in with
Administrator rights? Can you try completely uninstalling ActiveSync
(see http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ) and then
try and reinstall ActiveSync?

Yes I have administrator rights. One time I clicked on active sync and it
wasn't greyed out (but it's greyed out now, I don't know what i did
differently). I deleted profile Pocket_PC5. It didn't list any others.
How do I delete Pocket_pc2, pocket_pc3, etc? After I delete them (assuming
I can), how can I rename pocket_pc5 to just pocket_pc. I don't understand,
it must be storing this information somewhere. I searched the harddisk for
everything pocket_pc2, pocket_pc3, etc and deleted them. I searched the
registry for everything named pocket_pcX and deleted them, and it still
tells me when I try to start a standard partnership that pocket_pc is
allready in use, please select another name. This information has got to be
stored somewhere. There has to be a way to delete it. I hope I am making
sense.

Also, I did completely uninstall and reinstall as per instructions below.
Thanks.

The complete uninstall should delete all the registry entries for the
partnerships - the partnership info is stored in C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles.
