Yes, he needs ActiveSync on the mobile device. However on Vista you need the
WMDC as stated.

Hi,

Sorry, I missed the point about ActiveSync on the mobile device. Yes,
ActiveSync is required on the device to be able to sync with ActiveSync or
WMDC (depending on the operating system of your computer). In any case you
can't uninstall it from the device.

Thank you Raj and Clarkcarty.

After your messages, I've figured out there the problem could only be
because of the Firewall etc. So I disabled the firewall, intrusion detection
and anti-virus software. It didn't work even after restarting the mobile as
well as the laptop.

Coincidentally (with some fear of intrusion/hacking) etc, I thought it would
be safer to disable the internet connection, so I disabled the WiFi (as it
was the only way I connected to the internet) and then disconnected the usb
and then connected again. Surprisingly it connected without any problem.

Now I enabled one by one, i.e. firewall, intrusion detection and then
anti-virus. When I enabled the above, for each step, I disconnected and
connected the usb to make sure the WMDC connects to the mobile. It did.

When I enabled the WiFi again to connect to internet, the WMDC connection
remained. However, while the WiFi is on, when I disconnect and reconnect the
usb, it wouldn't establish the connection between the mobile and WMDC. I can
see the new LAN connection created when I connect the usb and it's status is
Enabled and Shared. But sync status on mobile is "Connecting..." and on WMDC
it is "Not Connected".

Can you throw some light on this "Network Connections" conflict?

Thanks

ou'll have to tell us what WiFi software you might be using (driver, WiFi
manager, etc.). There was a problem with a certain Intel wireless software
set a while back with XP and ActiveSync, so it could be the same thing.
There was never a single failure point found that could be fixed, but many
people found that if they upgraded the driver, the WiFi manager software, or
both, everything was fine. It was as though the WiFi stuff did not want to
allow the USB network connection while WiFi was connected to the network.
You might also try disabling the "Enable advanced network functionality"
option on the device, if you have it (Settings, Connections, USB to PC).

Thanks for the quick reply.

I use "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection" for WiFi.

Driver Details:

Location: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\NETw3v32.sys
Provider: Intel
Driver Date: 30/10/2006
File Version: 10.6.0.29

Please note, I dont have "Settings, Connections, USB to PC" on my mobile.

Hope this helps.

hat's the one that was problematical. You might double-check the Settings
items and see whether there's somewhere to turn off the Advanced network
functionality. Otherwise, I'm afraid that you're going to have to fish
around for some driver that will work. Do I take it correctly that you are
not using any Intel software to actually pick an SSID to connect to, set WEP
keys, etc., but are using the built-in Windows software to do that?

Thanks again.

I will keep this post updated about how I solved the issue (if I solve). In
the meantime, I just disable the WiFi connection, connect my mobile to the
laptop and then enable WiFi back. WiFi doesn't seem to disturb the already
established connection between the mobile and laptop. Weird!!

t's actually the WiFi software that is breaking the WiFi connection when
you hook up the device. ActiveSync isn't doing anything wrong; it simply
creates a little network consisting of the PC and the device. However, the
WiFi software decides that it doesn't want to be active when there's another
network connection in place and active (maybe an overactive security step;
it makes sense to prevent this in many cases), so it shuts down the WiFi
connection.
