What Else?...AS Won't Connect/Sync 4.2 or 4.5

I have a Cingular 8525 (HTC i think). When i first got it, i had sync
problems. After many hours, i uninstalled AS4.5 and installed 4.2...and it
worked!

Three days ago, it stopped syncing. I've tried everything everywhere...all
except a hard reset. I've uninstalled 4.2 and installed 4.5; i've
uninstalled 4.5 & reinstalled 4.2. i've done a million soft resets, some of
them while connected. The best i've been able to get is connected using
AS4.2 as a guest--i could explore my device from my laptop, but it wouldn't
sync. Now, with the uninstall/reinstall of 4.2, i don't have a partnership,
and i can't get one created. All along the way, i got messages like
"ActiveSync can't connect, click ok to run the troubleshooter," which of
course finds nothing. I've also done diagnostic tests on Outlook 2007. I'm
running XP Pro SP2. Another message i got happened when it looked as though
AS was about to create a partnership and sync...so close; the message was
that activesync can't connect with my device...reconnect and try again (or
something like that).

i think i've seen Chris Herrera floating around in here from time to time,
and i've followed as many things from his FAQs that even remotely looked like
they applied. Bev Howard's page hasn't been updated in awhile, but it has
helped in the old AS 3.x days.

I mean, what other options are there? Has anyone ever created a program to
replace ActiveSync? We've got several itunes replacement programs and
stripped down QuickTime programs. If you can think of any alternatives or
any next steps to take, i'd probably fall to my knees and weep with happiness
and thanksgiving!

Needless to say, i'm a little bit frustrated. i guess it's not all that
appropriate to ask for an alternative/knock off program for ActiveSync in a
microsoft forum, so just pretend i didn't write that.

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can give. I guess i'll do a hard
reset, but i'd like someone to at least recommend it before i do (no
guarantees, of course, just a recommendation). HELP!

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. And I can't offer any advice.

I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

I'm actually considering installing Vista to "see if that helps." I've seen
a number of posts on this forum that cause me concern though. Ain't life
grand?

he only thing Vista will do for you is give you Windows Mobile Device
Center to cuss at rather than ActiveSync. Actually if you are considering
that drastic an option I would consider doing the re-install on the PPC
first...hard reset. Do make sure all the partnerships are out of your PC
before you try to partner again.

I don't have any silver bullets for AS problems, but I have rarely solved
any by upgrading AS. I have solved many by hard resetting the PPC and
starting over. I know that is drastic, and shouldn't be that way.
Downgrading AS can be a tricky proposition too. You want to be sure there
are no remnants hanging around. Not much is flakier than an older version of
a program installed over a newer one that leaves some of the newer
components hanging around.

ven:

What do I/we need to do to completely remove AS 4.5 and reinstall 4.2? Are
there manual uninstall instructions somewhere you could point us to?

Thanks.

effc4442 - I'm interested as well as I've had the same problem for 2
months. Nothing I've tried (including uninstall 4.5, install 4.2...etc.) has
helped. It is definitely a USB communciation issue.
