Writing Location-Based Applications

Writing Location-Based Applications

Post by Sm9uIFBlcn » Sat, 20 Nov 2004 02:29:11

I just wanted to pass along some information which might be useful for
developers making location-based software using the .NET Compact Framework.
The article is an introduction to writing your own NMEA parser, including
VB.NET source code that works on all .NET platforms. The first part is
linked below. The second part of the article, which explains how to
calculate and enforce precision to make applications suitable for business,
will be in the January 2005 issue of Dr. Dobb's Journal (www.ddj.com).

I'd like to get more involved with the development community, so please let
me know if I can help out with any GPS-related issues.

1. Need an alternative location to write application data in Wind

2. Need an alternative location to write application data in Windows Vista

With Windows Vista, we can no longer write application settings to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Registry key in the same way. If we don't have
Admin permission, our entry will be "virtualized" to our own private
key, which makes it the equivalent to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, thus
defeating the purpose of writing application data to a location
available to all users.

I need a place to be able to write application data that will be
available to all users. I know about the "Documents and Settings/All
Users/Application Data" folder, but found that when I created a .ini
file with my application, other non-admin users did not have
permission to write to it. So now what do I do?
