IMF update--pretty, pretty please!!

Post by Ryan Helme » Thu, 13 Jan 2005 06:13:34

We're dying here... even over the past week, there has been a significant
uptick in spam. We block SCL 5 and up, but stuff is starting to slip
through at 4 and under, and we don't dare lower it below 5.

When we hear "early 2005," can anyone be more specific? If that could mean
May, for instance, we need to look at something else. Is the technology
that similar to that in Outlook 2003? Those updates seem to be much more
frequent. Can we expect more frequent IMF updates in the future?

Thank you!
Ryan

Unfortunately, one of the downsides of a free product :(

Ryan, amen to that. I block from 4 up, and I've noticed a definite shift in
message volume down to the 5 level. SCL 5 is now 22% of my blocked
messages; it used to be much lower. You can see my spam by SCL volumes here:

As part of the Exchange Edge Services that announcement that took place last
month, I heard that the next IMF update would be a part of Exchange 2003
SP2. I don't think that's going to get here much before May.

You might try doing some RBL-based blocking. That helped me quite a bit.

But it's not exactly free--you have to buy Exchange (2003 specifically) to
use it.

From what I saw, it looks like Edge Services is delayed, but the IMF update
should still be released in "early 2005." Have you heard something more
recently? I think this was posted on Dec. 22:

I did set up spamhaus for an RBL, but it doesn't seem to capture all that
much. Can you suggest any that may be more effective?

Thanks for your help!
