new isp & new domain name procedure

Post by aGVhcn » Mon, 26 Sep 2005 01:33:01

The company recently re-located to another state and got a new ISP. The old
network guy left the company and disappeared and the domain name was
registered under his name so we couldn't switch the DNS numbers. Anyways, we
got a new domain name, pointed it to our exchange/web server and all that
works fine and dandy. from home I'm able to login to webmail, see old mail.
What I can't do is send/receive new mail from outside the network. When I
send to the new domain address it bounces back with a SMTP communication
problem. When I send mail from new domain's webmail, it sits in the server
queues.

we have a gateway/firewall configured for our web/exchange server to allow
pop3/smtp/webserver traffic. Am I missing anything for this to work?

He registered yourcompany.com himself? The registration doesn't matter
insofar as the DNS is concerned, but you need to prove to whomever manages
the DNS that you're authorized to do make changes.....and of course, you
can't change the domain registration without his authorization...Any legal
recourse? Have you tried *** hounds? Professional psychics? Attack lawyers?

How are you trying?

What's the domain name?

http://www.yqcomputer.com/
mail. Did you remove your old Internet domain name from your recipient
policy?

Next time, make sure everything is in *your* name. I guess you know that
already. :(

The guy who registered the original name... well, let's just say it would be
more trouble trying to get him to set it up with our new ISP cause he is
unreachable. We learned our lesson. (the new name is registered under the
company's identity)

How am I trying? I can login to webmail at http://www.yqcomputer.com/

the domain is strickly for email, not for website.

The domain name is winkhaus-na.com

I changed the recipient policy to the new domain (still was the old one,
good news)

also with the new domain, I changed the MX record to point to our IP address.

Seeing as I found 2 things that needed to be modified, hopefuly when the
changes go through on the DNS all my subject: TEST mails will pour in! I'll
keep you informed. Thx

Your outbound mail shouldn't be affected by this at all. Check the
properties of your virtual SMTP server....and also check for the presence of
an SMTP connector. If you're forwarding your outbound mail to an ISP's SMTP
server as a 'smarthost' you'll need to change this for your new ISP's
settings.
