New user mailbox, move contents from old to new

Post by U2FpbG9ubW » Thu, 29 Jun 2006 07:43:01

I have a user who got married but I have not seen answers in the news group
that match our senerio.

I created a new Windows User ID for her (old one was based off the old name)
and a new mailbox.

Now I want to move the contents of the old box to the new one.

For a few weeks I want the old address to work but forward mail to the new
box until she can notify people of the change. Then I will delete the old
mailbox.

Any help appreciated.

I would have suggested just a rename of the account (right click in ADUC,
rename). However in the approach you have taken dump the contents of the
current mailbox into a PST either using Exmerge or by logging onto the
mailbox and then copy them into the new mailbox. Then you need to setup
forwarding within ADUC to forward the messages. Another alternative is just
to add her old address to the new account.

Dont bother with the 2nd mailbox.
Rename the first account, make her new SMTP address the default reply
and leave her old SMTP address as is.

I didn't know about the rename function. Will that change her windows log in
to the new name too? If so that should be satisfactory. I was just trying
to totally eliminate the old name in the log on and exchange .....
