Microsoft Media Player Control for PocketPC

Post by Chri » Wed, 25 Feb 2004 04:55:53

First, I tried to post yesterday but it didn't show up...
sorry if it ends up as a double post.

OK, I can't get the control (Microsoft Media Player
Control for PocketPC) to work. PIE crashes when opening a
page with the control. Even the demo page that came with
my iPaq 4150 doesn't work. I've tried to reinstall the
control, edit the pages using the demo code provided by
MS... nothing works. The page opens and Explorer quits. Of
course it works on my PC.

I've got a new iPaq 4150 running PPC 4.20.1081
I'm not sure what other info would be relavent to help me.

Any ideas on a workaround or fix.

Does anyone have any links to pages that have embedded WMV
files so I can test more? I can't seem to find any.

TIA.

Chris

Microsoft Media Player Control for PocketPC

I have exactly the same problem !!! (as posted above and in urgent need of
any solution/workaround please post back any info to solve this ***
thing):

The pda in question is a ipaq 4150. Right after configuring the OS (PPC
2003) I installed the Windows Media Player ActiveX plugin for Pocket
Internet Explorer. Upon accessing a webpage in which the Windows Media
control is loaded, Pocket Internet Explorer just shuts down and I'm kicked
backed to the startup desktop screen. Pocket IE is not resident in memory.

I pinpointed the problem down to the PARAM tags lines: when I comment out
*only* all of the param tags, the control will load, but of course nothing
happens as no param-tag for the filename etc. is set. If however I only show
1 of the param-tags -no matter which one-, IE shuts down ! (If I include a
fake param tag, like:
<param name="nonexistentparamname" value="whatever"> the webpage is shown
including the non-functioning control).

Thus, it seems that valid param-tags are the problem !!! This seems to me
like a bug in the plugin or PPC 2003 (or combination), however, the original
code does work on my ipaq 5450 (PPC2002) and on my Windows XP laptop ...
(the code is as elementary as can be).

Has anyone, any suggestions ?
