Force new masterpage across the entire farm

Post by Hele » Thu, 21 Feb 2008 21:55:11

Hi,
I have a MOSS farm, with publishing enabled on most, but not all of
the site collections.

I've created a cusomised, branded master-page with some custom images
and custom css file.

I'd like to install this as the default master page on everysite
created on the entire farm.

Is there any easy way to achieve this?

I don't want to use features, etc. I just want this master page to be
applied whenever anyone creates a site, anywhere!

Thanks!

Helen

Your settings for a new site should be that inherit from Parent, it
will always use the master page of top level site.

That's what I assumed, but that's only the case with publishing sites.
Normal sites don't inherit.

And my requirement is the force the custom master page across the
entire farm, not just a site collection.

Hello Helen,
You can create new site templates for folks to use. The other thing that
you 'can do' is modify the existing core files. (Did I say that out loud?)
While it is generally not a recommended best practice to modify any of the
core files (in fact, some would say this is absolutely taboo), this will
make your changes across the entire farm if you do it on all SharePoint servers
in the farm.

Good luck,
