Differences in list/doc. library permission in WSS and SPS

Post by SmllaG9uZ » Sat, 25 Jun 2005 18:40:06

Hi

I'm implementing the Sharepoint Portal.

We have different departments, each having their own document libraries with
different permissions for different users/groups.
On WSS, you can have a unique set of permissions for each document library
but not on SPS.

I wondering, why this option is not available on Portal Server 2003.

If I can't set permissions on a list, I have to deploy the different areas
as WSS Sites.

Can you kindly advise, whether is it a limitation or there is a workaround ?

Thanks,
Jiehong

Hi,
Well it's a good work around, but security is a key concern here among the
users.

I've done it using a "magic link" ;) posted by Hollis D. Paul, which gives
you access to append different security permissions to specific users.
Everything works well except the only problem: how to add specific users and
grant them scpecific permissons. I tried to do as you said but a domain logon
window appeared. And even our portal administrator couldn't add a user to a
library. How have you done it?

The link: [
http://<server>/_layouts/1049/ShrOpt.aspx?obj={<doclibID>},doclib ]
p.s.: change 1049 to your locale code (1033 is default), it's in all URL's
around the server.
