command line error

I am trying to explore the WSS templates. It says I must install the core
first but when I do this command all I get is "command line error"

stsadm -o addsolution -filename <file_path>\ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp

this is a standalone default install of wss 3

You had a thread on this yesterday, John.

The only difference is the Subject line (where the other subject was more
relevant). As the previous thread is still active, there's no point in
re-posting this for a couple *more* days at least. Give the rest of the
newsgroup time to answer ... and at least add some extra information when
you re-post.

I am sure you might have tried this, but what the heck, try it this way..
Click start>Run>cmd> type cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN
then try stsadm -o addsolution -filename
<file_path>\ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp

This is actually a good indication of why it's better to have only the
original thread.

In that thread I already wrote

or better when in c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server
extensions\12\bin where also the applicationtemplatecore.wsp file is

stsadm -o addsolution -filename applicationtemplatecore.wsp

stsadm -o deploysolution -name
applicationtemplatecore.wsp -allowgacdeployment -immediate

which is virtually the same as your suggestion (but which as it wasn't in
this thread you couldn't see)

P.S. To also add to this thread, here is the link to MVP Dustin Miller's
guide to installing these templates

Dustin Miller's guide gave me the answer. you can't copy and paste the text
for some odd reason. If you retype what looks like the same text, it then
works.
